Position Overview

The Scenic Specialist II is a senior level position based on proven experience and qualifications. To act as a leader both in the warehouse and on event site.  Responsible for the tracking, pulling, preparing and inventorying of all rental scenery within the branch, and effectively setup and dismantle of scenic items on show site. To provide scenic operational support for the branch and provide support to internal and external customers. Reports to Scenic Services Manager.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Assist Management with the pulling, preparing and quality assurance of all out-going scenic elements, inclusive of fabrication, modification, and repairs to scenic inventory.
  • Supervise personnel assigned by operations for the purpose of prep work in the production centre warehouse.
  • Collaborate with Management on scenic coordination to ensure appropriate plans are in place for the coordination of incoming and outgoing scenic projects.
  • Coordinate staffing needs with Management and other department leads, to ensure that required needs are being met and assigned.
  • Collaborate with department heads, designers, production manager and sales, on work orders, as needed.
  • Participate in and conduct pre-production meetings.
  • Complete full and accurate documentation of all work performed, as required – including post event meeting reports, equipment additions/changes, or labour variances to plan.
  • Follow quality control standards and procedural guidelines.
  • Set up, operate, and dismantle sets/scenery and staging equipment at events as assigned.
  • Setup, operate and dismantle audio visual equipment at event locations as needed.
  • To supervise all show site personnel assigned for the scenic installation, operation and dismantle.
  • Maintain scenic supplies in show tool kits as necessary for operational functions.
  • Supervise the Loading and unload trucks, as needed.
  • Drive cube vans, panel vans and straight trucks, as needed.
  • Represent the Company in a professional manner.
  • Comply and maintain safety standards according to Encore regulations and safe working practices.
  • Follow and enforce company policies on show site safety and operations.
  • Develop and foster a positive, team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Assist in the scheduling and coordination of trucking arrangements.
  • Assist Management in maintaining accurate up-to-date inventories.
  • Follow company guidelines, with respect to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Job Qualifications

  • High School diploma plus 2 years of college, technical trade school, or 4 years of professional scene shop experience (preferred)
  • Proven proficiency in all areas of scenic production
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Skilled in using AutoCAD for 2D/3D plans for construction
  • Forklift license, Man-Lift license, Valid driver’s license
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR preferred
  • Knowledge of woodworking tools and scenic construction methods
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and renderings
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret work orders and other documents
  • Effective communication using email and Teams
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, customers, or regulatory agencies
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and plane geometry
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to conduct theoretical discussions on specific technical topics
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems quickly and effectively

Work Environment

Fabrication

Work is performed in a shop environment. Team members must adhere to appearance guidelines as defined by Encore based in a warehouse environment and when traveling, on an individual venue or a representation of venues in that city or area. When in the Fabrication Department, work will be completed in a temperature-controlled environment with exposure to dirt, sand, dust, and chemicals. The working conditions will vary between moderately quiet to noisy volumes. Working times may include irregular hours and on-call status including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
