Position Overview

The Director, Production provides professional, positive, team building leadership to the Encore Production team. The Director, Production collaborates with the market leadership team on vision and strategy to establish a high level, consistent delivery on VIP, mid-level, and full show production events. This position is responsible for developing and implementing the quality control processes that sets the standards and best practices for show management in the Washington D.C. market. This position is also responsible for ensuring a close partnership with the Event Solutions Team (EST) resulting in the successful review and revision of all production opportunities. The Director, Production also coordinates inter-company production partnerships with Hargrove and other business units with opportunities inbound to the market. The Dir, Production will report to the Senior Director, Project Management.

Key Job Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership

  • Facilitates or attends biweekly sales team meetings, production team meetings, monthly divisional meetings, production leadership meetings, market scheduling meetings, and RFP meetings, focusing on VIP or custom complex events.
  • Oversees the market production resource directory including show support roles and specialty vendors.
  • Identify areas of efficiency, creating, and implement plans for improvement.
  • Directs weekly production team meetings.
  • Leads by example in portraying a polished, professional image in accordance with the standards set forth in the Encore team member guidebook.

Resource Allocation

  • Develops and qualifies a network of local freelance resources to support peak periods of demand.
  • Evaluates the bandwidth of production staff across all events in the market.
  • Partners with Program Production and Project Management Organization to ensure appropriate talent to task when scheduling and assigning the necessary production roles and associated resources for an event.
  • Provides input on cap ex equipment and software purchases.

Event Execution

  • Partners with Event Solutions on all VIP, mid-level, full, and complex events to identify inbound production level opportunities and provides input on project assessment.
  • Works with market production seller, or opportunity owner, to develop the vision and project plan used in show execution.
  • Supports design, engineering, and development of all full production events.
  • Establishes the production budget review in partnership with venue leadership regarding proposals and projects to include oversight for creative, scenic, production, gear, and labor elements.
  • Establishes job profit targets and holds show teams accountable for tracking job costs toward contribution margin.
  • Ensures team members utilize the event plan checklist and monitor progress throughout planning and execution.

Customer Experience

  • Ensures consistent execution for a cohesive customer journey throughout Encore’s network.
  • Develops strategic plans to execute the customer’s vision and scope of work.
  • Proactively supports collaboration with the Encore Venue, Logistics, Workforce, Specialty Services, and Purchasing departments.
  • Engages team members through regular onsite visits to ensure show success and a positive customer experience.

People Development  

  • Increase operational effectiveness by communicating Encore Core values, strategies, and objectives to team members.  
  • Monitor and improve the team’s efficiency and productivity using standards and KPI’s.  
  • Establish clear expectations regarding responsibilities, behaviors, and daily activities.     
  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members and ensure a safe work environment consistent with company values.  
  • Partner with HR business partners to manage human resources activity including selection, performance management, salary administration, training and development, and strategic human resources planning. 

Job Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of Production Management experience
  • Excellent communication skills including written, oral and presentation
  • Project management software and MS Office experience required
  • Works well under pressure and ability to multi-task
  • Detail and service oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Positive approach to teamwork, sales, and problem solving
  • Strong client relationship skills
  • Formal technical training desirable

Work Environment

Hotel

Work is performed in a hotel/convention center environment with moderate exposure to outdoor temperatures and to dirt, sand and/or dust. The working conditions will vary between moderately quiet to noisy volumes. Team members will use high-end audio-visual equipment and electrical components and will be exposed to heights via lifts and ladders. Team members may be asked to work in multiple hotel locations. Working times will include irregular hours and on-call status including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Team members must adhere to appearance guidelines as defined by Encore based on an individual hotel or a representation of hotels in that city or area.

Office

Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Working times may include irregular hours and on-call status including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Team members must adhere to appearance guidelines as defined by Encore based in an office environment and when traveling, on an individual venue or a representation of venues in that city or area.
