Position Overview

Reporting to the Managing Director, Canada the VP Finance, Canada is a strategic business partner to the Managing Director, Canada, helping to drive performance management, leading the planning and analysis function, and providing quality management information and actionable insights to enable delivery of optimized business results. This role is a key member of the leadership team, working in a highly collaborative environment, partnering with sales, operations, marketing, product management, pricing, IT and others to drive business performance, process improvement, and informed decision-making. This role is based in Toronto and also has a reporting line to the Chief Financial Officer.

Key Job Responsibilities         

Business Relationships and Connectivity

  • Develop strong relationships with Encore Canada peers and team leaders, evidenced by regular interaction, proactive collaboration, problem solving, and active support in evaluating business alternatives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director, Canada and functional leaders by translating financial results into clear business implications, risks, and opportunities.
  • Set the tone and example for collaborative relationships across Finance and with all key business partners.
  • Establish and ensure adherence to appropriate financial governance, planning disciplines, reporting standards, and business practices, including consistent application of Encore Global policies across Encore Canada.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with IT leaders and teams, including taking a leadership role in representing finance in systems enhancements, data quality improvements, reporting automation, and analytics capabilities.
  • Partner cross-functionally to improve visibility to business drivers, promote fact-based decisions, and increase accountability to commitments and performance outcomes.
  • Maximize profitability through management, innovation and leadership of direct and indirect reports to support the business strategy overall.  Lead process improvement and client facing interactions to give Encore a competitive advantage in the marketplace. 
  • Attend, participate and lead in industry associations, forums and dialogues with all stakeholders to increase Encore’s competitive advantage. 

Solutions Focus

  • Lead the annual budget, quarterly forecast, and long-range planning processes for Encore Canada, including timelines, assumptions, consolidation, review, and executive presentation materials.
  • Own the company’s planning and analysis cadence, including monthly business reviews, forecast updates, performance reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting of monthly, quarterly, and annual results, with clear insights into trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Develop and monitor key business metrics, operational KPIs, and financial targets to support delivery of revenue, margin, EBITDA, and cash flow objectives.
  • Partner with sales, operations, and pricing leaders to evaluate customer, venue, and market performance; improve profitability; and support strategic growth decisions.
  • Lead scenario modeling, investment analysis, and business case development for strategic initiatives, cost optimization opportunities, and operational improvement efforts.
  • Translate complex financial and operational data into executive-ready dashboards, presentations, and recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Coordinate ad hoc analysis, executive reporting, and field support requests to ensure leaders have the insights needed to make informed decisions.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of reporting, forecasting accuracy, data quality, and analytics tools to increase speed, consistency, and business value.
  • Partner with accounting and treasury teams to ensure forecasts, working capital assumptions, and cash flow views are aligned with actual results and business outlook.
  • Support procurement and cost management efforts by identifying savings opportunities, tracking benefits realization, and measuring business impact.
  • Achieve expected qualitative and quantitative results.
  • Perform other duties and projects, as required.

Build High Performing Team

  • Hire, develop, lead, and motivate a high-performing FP&A and analytics team capable of supporting business growth and evolving organizational needs.
  • Create and maintain a team structure that delivers effective financial planning, business analysis, and decision support to the organization.
  • Promote and drive professional development and training efforts to strengthen business acumen, financial modeling capability, data literacy, storytelling with data, and service skills of the team.
  • Align organization capabilities with current and near-term strategic and operational goals of the business.
  • Enhance teamwork to enable continuous support and best practices across teams.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, curiosity, continuous improvement, and proactive partnership with the business.

Job Qualifications

  • CPA or equivalent accounting designation required
  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required, MBA preferred
  • 15+ years of accounting experience with at least 8 years of managerial accounting experience
  • Experience as the VP finance, controller or other senior level accounting executive
  • Experience managing financial systems implementations and upgrades
  • Experience with redesigning and improving processes, procedures, and controls
  • US GAAP knowledge required
  • Oracle or other large ERP system accounting expertise
  • Ability to act independently while communicating key issues to the senior financial management team and other vested parties
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast paced and evolving environment
  • Management experience of a large group and hands on experience with G/L, A/P, A/R, billing, credit and collections and fixed assets
  • Results oriented, organized and highly detailed
  • Preference given to those with hospitality or service-based organizations
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, etc.)

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in an office environment.  Working times may include irregular hours and on-call status including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.   Team members must adhere to appearance guidelines as defined by Encore based in an office environment and when traveling, on an individual venue or a representation of venues in that city or area.  

Salary Pay Range: $191,639.00 - $249,131.00

The compensation offered for this role is determined based on the qualifications outlined in the job posting for the specified location. Final compensation is based on a number of factors including location, travel, relevant work experience, or particular skills and expertise. In addition, some positions may be eligible for other compensation such as potential overtime, bonuses or incentives.
