Product Research & Design Manager

Position Overview

The Product Research & Design Manager evaluates emerging technologies through research and analytics to provide recommendations to the product management team. This position will participate in ideation and gap analysis. The Product Research & Design Manager designs new products and modifications to existing products and researches and conducts experiments in advanced technologies to drive Encore toward the future state of events. This position reports to Director, Creative Engineering.

Key Job Responsibilities 

Research

• Evaluate existing products qualified by product management team and leadership against product ecosystem, including logistics, device operation, content management, human resources, and finance.

• Conduct research on technologies, systems, protocols, and trends as required by the business.

• Gather and report research; provide analysis of research as required by the director.

• Study emergent technologies and deep engineering concepts.

• Explore technologies through experimentation; analyze and report findings.

Design/Engineering

• Evaluate design of existing qualified products against Human Centered Design standards inclusive of form, UX, UI and event ecosystem. Provide analysis as required.

• Engage in product modification and new product design outputting visualizations (such as technical drawings, schematics, operational code blocks, interactive mockups, infographics and flow charts, renderings, and animations), writing and narratives (such as technical documentation, conceptual case studies, and insights), and fabrication (to create printed or machined prototypes, printed circuit boards, etc.).

• Work with product managers, SMEs and manufacturers to move prototypes through testing and proof of concept toward deployment.

Project Management

• Function as the Principal Investigator of any research and design projects as assigned.

• Gather the visual and written artifacts of contributors and document for communications purposes.

• Manage the logistics required in the execution of a project, including the purchase of supplies (as approved by director) and payment of vendors.

• Drive effective, efficient communication as the project communications hub.

• Track and report project costs.

Consultation and Communication

• Serve as a subject matter expert on any topic studied or evaluated.

• Answer field inquiries related to research.

• Support event experience brainstorming and capabilities conversations.

• Provide content for later refinement on any topic studied or evaluated as required by the director. 

• Provide written evaluations and raw product positioning for later refinement as required by the director.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or design preferred

• 4+ years of product design or UX/UI required

• 2+ years of experience in media or web development preferred

• App or hardware coding proficiency required

Work Environment

Office / Laboratory / Field

Work is performed primarily in an office or laboratory environment with occasional travel to field and conferences.  Working conditions in the lab may be hazardous, including exposed electrical circuits, structural rigging, and application of hazardous chemicals; attention to safety is required at all times. Working times may include irregular hours and on-call status including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.  Team members must adhere to appearance guidelines as defined by Encore based in an office environment and when traveling, on an individual venue or a representation of venues in that city or area.

Salary Pay Range: $70,851.00 - $96,437.00

The compensation offered for this role is determined based on the qualifications outlined in the job posting for the specified location. Final compensation is based on a number of factors including location, travel, relevant work experience, or particular skills and expertise. In addition, some positions may be eligible for other compensation such as potential overtime, bonuses or incentives.
